Visitors to He Kun’s exhibition of reduction woodblock prints last spring were impressed by the ambition and skill of his large scale multi-coloured woodcuts.

Here was another chance to see the work of He Kun, but this time alongside the work of seven other Chinese printmakers all from Yunnan. They all use the same reduction process whereby they cut one block, print from it in one colour, then cut the same block up to another 20 times, each time printing a different colour. The results are richly coloured, richly textured prints. With prices from just under £100, this was a great opportunity to start collecting Chinese prints, which may well prove to be the next decade’s fastest growing and most fashionable sector in the art market.
